Toads...

Went to Hull yesterday and spotted some strange coloured toad statues. What was this? As I had a few hours to spend and no real majorly important things to get done, I decided to go on a hunt and find out what this was all about...

The Tourist Information had a brochure on the project. "Larkin With Toads". Each toad was uniquely painted by different artists. There was a map detailing where to find each toad.

I decided to go on a hunt for them as I had my little camera with me in my bag...

One of the toads I went looking for was missing. I'm guessing it was in for some repair of some type. It said it was to return soon...

I only had about an hour so there was no way I'd manage to find all of them (40 I believe). Most of them are in the city centre so you can walk between them, but I think about 10 of them are outside so it's a car discovery for those.

I hope to go back and try and find some more of them (all?) before the exhibition ends...

The Trip...

As I said yesterday, we just got back from 3 great weeks in Sweden! We had the best of times! :)

A Christening of my little niece, a 3-year-old birthday party with an amazing strawberry cake, markets, picnics and what feels like a million barbecues. The weather was amazing! Better than normal. About half of the nights were actually officially classed as "tropical nights" as the temperature never went below 20 degrees in the night. In the day it was sunny and 25-30 degrees. Perfect beach weather! :)

Anyway, as promised, I took some time out to get my photos off my cameras and here's just a VERY small selection...

... And I'm Back!

Just got back from 3 amazing weeks in Sweden! So great weather (almost too hot half of the time) and we had such a great time. Not the best to announce on the internet that you're going away so it's been pre-written, pre-scheduled posts on here for the last few weeks.

It feels like it will take me forever to catch up on everything but I'm going to try and get some more photos off my cameras and come back tomorrow and post some :)

PS. What's up with the UK weather?! My calendar says it's July...!

"Capture The Moment" Layout Class...

Supplies needed:
Bazzill Dotted Swiss – Ballet
Coredinations Black Magic – Mantra
Coredinations Black Magic - Tada
Technique Tuesday/Ali Edwards stamps – Everyday Words
Technique Tuesday/Ali Edwards stamps – Bits & Pieces
Three buttons (I used Sassafras)
StazOn inkpad – Black
Clear jewels
Short piece of ribbon (I used “Love Elsie”)

Also needed:
October Afternoon – Candid Camera stamps (optional)
Black charcoal inkpad (optional)
Border punch (optional – I used Martha Stewart)
Glue (I use Herma removable)
Black journaling pen (I use 0.5 Zig Millennium)
Corner Rounder Punch (I use the green EK Success)

I have also made a sketch to go with my layout design which I thought would be fun to supply for you:

Start by cutting your pink cardstock to size and pick 3 portrait photos. I scrap in true A4 size, so I cut my background cardstock to 29,7x21 centimetres (cm). Please feel free to adapt to another layout size if you prefer. 8.5x11 or 12x12 would work great for this too, just remember to change your photo measurements etc.

Cut your photos to size. I’m using a 21 cm wide background so I cut all my photos so they are 7 cm wide.

Now take your sheets of “Tada” and “Mantra” and cut a strip of each as wide as your layout is (in this case 21 cm). Tear an uneven border at the top and bottom of these sheets so that the “Tada” piece is approx 19 cm tall and the “Mantra” approx 17 cm tall.

Attach to the layout as shown in the picture below. I started approx 2 cm from the top of the layout.

Decide the order of your photos and glue these in place.

Time to create our journaling block using the “Bits and Pieces” stamp. This stamp comes in several parts and can be a bit difficult to line up.
My trick is to take the contact sheet that comes with the stamp and put this the wrong way up on your work surface. Then add your clear acrylic block on top. You can now see through the block and get the exact placement for the different stamp bits.

Stamp this onto the green side of the “Tada” cardstock. Round the top corners and use a border punch on the bottom edge.

Glue your journaling block in place.

Stamp out your title and don’t forget to add a date. I used a little date stamp by October Afternoon on another scrap piece of “Tada”.

Finish off by adding some buttons, a strip of ribbon and finally some jewels.

I hope you enjoyed my class! Wishing you lots of fun creating your own version!

Smile...

I wanted to share this little "coffee cup" book with you today. Though it's not really a coffee cup... just the shape of it. And since I really don't like coffee, it's full of cupcakes instead :) So there's no "cup" and no "coffee"... just a book ;)

There's lots of stuff going on in this book. Lots of watercolours and Twinkling H2O's. I printed my photos very tiny (often 8 to a normal 10x15 photo) to fit around the pictures in the book.

The painted cupcakes are part of the book kit by Wilna. The large cupcakes are my own stamps. They come in a cute tin by Maya Road :)

Scrap Those Photos...

You know certain photos that you have lying around. The tricky ones that never get scrapped because you pick something else instead...?

I've had this photo lying around for ages. I did the photo technique waaay back. I believe I was following a tutorial by Jessica Sprague in a scrapping magazine. Something along the lines of getting your focal point in a circle and then letting the circle have full colour but the rest faded.

Well because of the photo having had this technique done to it I kinda avoided it when I scrapped. I didn't really know what to do with it, you know? But it's so great when you can just make yourself grab one of those "tricky photos" one day and get it scrapped. Such a good feeling :)

"Celebrate The Moments" Layout Class...

Supplies needed:
My Little Shoebox – Wonderful/Tanisha
My Little Shoebox – Who’s There/Wise Old Owl
Bella Blvd – Rainbow Ribbons
Technique Tuesday/Ali Edwards stamps – Everyday Words
Pink and Aqua jewels (I used Kaiser)
Maya Road – Zoo Animals Stamps
StazOn inkpad – Black
One sheet of white cardstock

Also needed:
Black charcoal inkpad (optional)
Woodware 3 inch Square punch (optional)
Glue (I use Herma removable)
Black journaling pen (I use 0.5 Zig Millennium)
Corner Rounder Punch (I use the green Ek Success one)

This is a great way of using up all those every day random photos that might not “fit” on a specific layout…

Start by cutting your white cardstock to size. I scrap in true A4 size, so I cut mine to 29,7x21 centimetres (cm). Please feel free to adapt to another layout size if you prefer. 8.5x11 or 12x12 would work great for this too.

Pick your photos. I’m using 5 photos. We’ll be working with
9 squares so you can have up to nine photos. I have 5 photos so I’m using 4 squares of patterned paper. If you have 6 photos then you’d use 3 patterned paper squares and so on. Punch out your squares using the Woodware punch, or alternatively cut squares that are 5,3 x 5,3 cm.

Play around with the squares on your cardstock until you’re happy with the order. Use your corner punch on each of the outside corners of your 9x9 grid. (The top left photo has the top left corner rounded, the top right photo has the top right corner rounded and so on).

Use some ink on the edges of the patterned paper pieces and glue everything into place. My top squares start 3,8 cm from the top of the layout and I have an approx gap of 0,8 cm between the squares.

Stamp the title. I split mine between the top of the layout and one of the squares. Stamp the elephant at the bottom of your grid.

Finish off by adding some jewels and drawing around the grid…keep this nice and relaxed and go for a slightly uneven look on purpose.

I hope you enjoyed my class! Wishing you lots of fun creating your own version!
